The Role
It was a great time being with GSK. A lot of people to meet and a lot of things to learn
You are not treated as a student here, everyone looks at you as a permanent staff and share with you any story any knowledge they have :)
I am really lucky to have a huge amount of support from my manager as well as director and senior managers. They are happy to sit down and talk to you hours if you really need some help or even if you just have a simple question
It varies depends on how my projects are going, some days are full of works and meetings, some other I may have an hour to sit on my desk looking up for development courses
To some extend I would say pretty much over a standard Placement student's responsibility. I led some projects and really was the leader of them, my manager did not supervise anything I was doing, I took the action and I made the decision. Nonetheless, I still receive enough support if I need from my manager to undertake something I am not sure about.
I feel much more confident getting back to uni with what I learn from my Placement year
The Company
It's open, friendly and FUN. It doesn't matter if you are 20 or 40 in the office, as long as you are willing to talk to people, you will find it an awesome place to stay for whole day :)
It was a bit messy at first when I started, compared to other Financial/Banking company, it was not really structured. But over time, things got better so not too worry actually
I would say it is more about my department and my team's investment in me. It depends on which team you are in, you may get a lots of chances to do site visit, attending training and so on.

It is not guaranteed you will get a grad job with GSK straightaway after completing your placement, they do not take majority of Placement students on board and the best thing you can get is a fast-track if you are lucky enough to the Future Leader Programme once you done your year
The Culture
There are quite a lot of Placement students in GSK so there are always something going on. Normally people are getting around with others working in the same team, staying in the same house or from the same uni, but when it comes to events or night out, it could be a whole hundreds of colleagues :)
GSK is not at the very centre of London so it is quite cheap compare to usual expected cost living in London
Pretty nothing, we normally going out in central
As long as you want to take part in, there are plenty of activities such as the Orange United Day, other charity works or a visit to Poppy Factory and chance to get a little prize in the Poppy Making challenge :)
