The Role
GlaxoSmithKline is a fantastic place to spend your placement year, there are so many varied opportunities to get involved in,
I worked with an incredible team who stretched and challenged me to make the most of my year with them.
I was assigned a mentor who was a great support throughout my year, he helped me to get involved with so many activities and helped to increase my confidence to no end.
I was fairly busy on a daily basis - you are given a lot of control of when you do what so it is all about your individual time management skills!
I was given a lot of responsibility whilst on placement and there was support available to me should I have ever needed it.
The skills I developed will go a long way to helping me in my future career and are transferable into many roles and organisations. Only some elements are relevant to my degree but that can only be expected. The year I spent on placement was probably more useful to helping me in my career than my degree.
The Company
The office at GSK is a fantastic environment, everyone is friendly and approachable.
I was given a mentor to help develop me who was not my supervisor.
Flexi Time

You can get fast tracked onto the graduate programme however there are still a lot of steps before you get the role and a lot of other candidates too.
The Culture
There were bi-weekly socials that the placement students organised so there are many opportunities to get involved.
I commuted from home so living costs were not an issue, being close to London socialising was usually in the centre so quite expensive but like everywhere it depends where you go to and if there are deals
There was a range of local pubs but for nightclubs you have to have a short train ride.
