The Role
During my time at Caterpillar I really enjoyed working there, it was a very good experience and extremely effective at giving me vital knowledge for any career a take in later life.
Within Caterpillar I felt very valued as a member of the onsite team as well as a member of the global IT team. I was given plenty of opportunities that stretched past the original role advertised, this was initiated through my onsite team leader. These chances were vital to me gaining the trust and respect from all members of the Stafford facility.
During my time at the Caterpillar I was given lots of guidance and support when it came to running and taking part in projects. All my guidance came from my onsite supervisor and network engineer. After a few weeks of settling in I did not require much guidance or support.
The work load was a perfect amount to keep me busy but not be over stressful at the same time. As I was taking part in projects as well as my day to day tasks I was constantly working on something.
I was responsible for many projects that were based around improving factory efficiency. These projects were of a high status within the facility I worked and showed Caterpillar are willing to give responsibility to anyone who is willing to take it on.
The main skills I have gained are time management, project leading, communication and team working. These skills will benefit me when finishing my degree and future employment as they are transferable skill and are relevant to any career path.
The Company
The atmosphere in my office was very laid back. Everyone was really easy to get on with and up for having a laugh when appropriate.
The placement was well organised in terms helping work placements fit into there facility and helping with any issues that arose with regards to starting the placement.
Caterpillar didn't really invest much training in terms of extra qualifications but they did give training that helped perform the job I was hired to do.
Subsidised/Company Gym
Staff Sales/Staff Shop
I would definitely take any opportunity to work for Caterpillar again as I enjoyed my time there and gained valuable skills.
The Culture
Me and all the other students based at the facility I worked at got on well and spent a lot of time socialising outside of work.
It was relatively cheap to live and socialise with plenty of activities to do.
There wasn't really much nightlife but there is a couple of clubs in the area
Yes there was, I took part in many charity events run through work.
