About You
Previously I had only experienced client side work, here I was working within one of the top advertising agencies in London - it was an amazing insight and so much fun! I loved it so much that I have requested to go back after the New year to gain experience within a different department.
I felt very valued during my time here, by the end I had team members approaching me over others because I had demonstrated a willingness to help and learn. I was involved in a number of tasks and worked on a variety of high profile brands which was really exciting. I was trusted with complex tasks as well which also made me feel valued. They have insight students in every week so are well adapted to having them.
I had a key contact in the office who helped me in settling in and getting in contact with other members within the company. If i needed any help I could go to them and they were happy to help. Everyone is so friendly that you can ask anyone your questions, for example I requested further experience shadowing in the various departments and I was guided to the right contacts to sort this out.
This experience did not really help me for going back to uni, however I gained a great insight into agency life and this really helped me determine whether this was the path i wanted my career to take. They are a great company for a first taste of the industry and it is such a buzzing agency it is a lovely place to work! I now am aware of the skills needed within each department for when it comes to applying for graduate roles later on.
The Company
The insight was very well structured, I was really impressed, I was greeted upon arrival and presented with my own Macbook, I was then given a programme guide which gave me an overview of the company and key contacts for me to get in touch with to arrange meetings. They have interns every week and so are well prepared and equipped. It also meant there was always something to do as with some companies who are not used to interns, there is little on your schedule.
The atmosphere was incredible, so exciting and buzzing. Really fun to work around. Everyone was always busy and darting about to different shoots or recordings - really interesting to watch and made you want to be involved. What is really nice is there is no heir achy, everyone talks to everyone so for all you know you could be sat next to the director, which makes for a very relaxed atmosphere.
There was not much in the way of personal training as the experience is relatively short, however they do offer a number of graduate jobs and internships to harness young minds and keep them within the company. You can learn more about this selection process during your time at the company.
It was so insightful, I was able to arrange a meting with someone from every department, this provided the opportunity to determine which area i fitted into within the company and also network during the experience. I was sat amongst full time employees which also enabled me to understand what their day to day life involved within the company.
In a short time, it was difficult to understand the company culture, however as mentioned, everyone sits with everyone - there is no hier achy which is really refreshing, it also encourages creativity as the departments are all mixed in. However during my time I did not really experience much of the company culture.
I came out of this insight knowing this was not only the industry I would like to be in, but also the company. I had such a great time and loved the content and projects I was given that I am desperate to go back. The content was so valuable in itself as you are exposed to every department which gives you a thorough understanding of the processes and roles within the industry.
Everything Else
You re reimbursed £10 a day, this covered half of my train fare so I had to provide the rest and cover my lunch also.
Yes, this was a highlight of the internship. They help you arrange meetings within every department so that you can understand what they do and the skills required for each role. This was so engaging and helpful, not many places let you do this. The people we met were so friendly and willing to help you and answer any questions.
As I was only there for a short time, there were no social opportunities that i attended, however I did see a number of events pass round on email that looked fun! The networking opportunities were endless as you can speak to all departments.
I seem to remember they offered yoga and a running club, but as I was on work experience, I wasn't permitted to attend.
It was the best work experience I have ever done, the days were so packed with interesting tasks that the days flew by. I now know that this is the industry for me and that this is where I would like to end up.
