The Role
Working within the rail industry, it was interesting and challenging.
I was completing the same work as, and held the same responsibility for my projects as my coleagues did over theirs.
On the whole very good at providing support, or pointing me in the right direction to receive the support I needed.
I managed my own time, calendar, and work according to meetings and deadlines.
I was often asked to head or attend meetings or site visits, I was also asked to cover those which my manager couldn't make.
I'm going back to work with Atkins once I have graduated!
The Company
Open plan offices allows you to walk and talk with people rather than sending and receiving endless emails. We often took meetings in an informal manner over coffee. Breaks with the team, and team meetings at Starbucks were frequent.
Improvements could be made to support and review the progress of HF placement students, but this department is small compared to other deparments that take on engineering undergrads.
I received all relevant training.
Flexi Time
Subsidised/Company Gym
Company Parties/Events
The Culture
There were not other placement students within my department, allow they do take on students across different offices and departments
I lived at home for the year and commuted to london, it would have been hard to pay rent in london on the salary. London prices on night out are expensive.
If you can pay for it, there's loads to do in London.
Sports matches and trips were arranged, as well as regular drinks after work.
