About You
I thought this was a great firm, very well-balanced with plenty of social activities and events to keep things interesting. Would certainly recommend.
I was included in a number of department social events during my time at the firm, and trainees would be keen to take me out for coffee to discuss things.
In one of my seats, I didn't receive very much support with the tasks and there seemed to be very little supervision. However, the following seat was the exact opposite as I received plenty of work and support in how to do the tasks. A mixed experience overall on this point.
During my time in particular departments, I learned a number of things about certain legal areas (corporate, competition, etc.) which will be useful in the modules that I'll be taking this year.
The Company
Extremely well-structured. Morning breakfast briefings and lunches provided insight on different areas of the firm and there were social events throughout the week to keep everyone entertained.
This was an August scheme so there was a bit of weariness among the schemers but overall, it was very positive.
The firm held a number of excellent sessions like negotiation workshops and networking workshops which will certainly be useful in the future.
There is nothing better than actually sitting in a desk and seeing how a firm operates in practice. Would definitely recommend doing a vacation scheme to see how it works on a day-to-day basis.
You get a good feel about how people in the firm operate and how the various departments interact with each other throughout the scheme.
There were some useful anecdotes from presenters about the work they did on a day-to-day basis which assisted in choosing potential areas of law to work in, but otherwise it was pretty standard.
Everything Else
£350/week, which is higher than most London vacation schemes.
There were two formal networking drinks sessions and events throughout the scheme, in addition to casual networking in the departments.
The networking events were relatively standard (but with plenty of food and alcohol) and the social events were well thought-out.
There was some limited scope about pro bono, but there didn't really seem to be much said about this. We didn't really learn that much about other things like sports and activities done by members of the firm.
I think the firm is very good at what it does and I would especially recommend it for anyone interested in a career as a litigator.
