The Role
It was a fantastic experience both in terms of gaining challenging work experience and enjoying myself throughout the process.
I felt that my opinion was valued from day 1. My colleagues were extremely welcoming and supportive and I definitely felt that I was a contributing member of the team.
I felt very supported throughout the entire internship. My people manager was extremely approachable and even if he wasn't available I felt comfortable approaching any other employee as they were always willing to help me out.
It varied on a day to day basis, but for the most part I was kept busy with project work that I knew was relevant to the project as a whole. At no point did I feel like I was simply being given make-work tasks to occupy my time.
I was given a fairly large amount of responsibility. I was put in charge along with another intern of our own internal project. It was daunting but also a fantastic learning experience.
The main skills that I took away from the experience were Presentation Skills. Over the course of the internship I drastically improved my ability to deliver a presentation and this is something that will help me throughout my degree and future career.
The Company
The atmosphere was quite casual. Everyone was there to work obviously, but at the same time people wanted to enjoy their time. It was an extremely friendly environment.
The firm wide events when all of the interns were brought together from across the UK were extremely well run. There was some confusion in my individual office with internship budget problems which unfortunately resulted in us being unable to travel to client projects.
There was a significant amount of time devoted to training which I found to be very beneficial.
Company Parties/Events
I was offered a job, but have since turned down that initial offer in order to request an office location transfer.
The Culture
I got along fairly well with the other interns for the most part, and there was a fair bit of socialising amongst the group outside of work.
Average cost of living, not cheap, not expensive.
I wasn't a big fan of the local nightlife.
Being in a city, of course there are opportunities, but it is up to you to find them.
