The Role
I felt I was given a significant amount of responsibility from the beginning meaning I was able to enjoy my task knowing I was contributing to the project. There were also Social activities after work from time to time which were enjoyable.
I feel like they respected me and encouraged me from the beginning, giving me enough support so that I felt comfortable with my tasks and as a member of the workplace.
I was able to ask questions whenever I needed help and always got a helpful response from my colleagues. They also made sure I was comfortable with the task I was undertaking before leaving me to get on with it.
I always had something to get on with during the course of the 8 week placement, although when running computational simulations I had some spare time.
I felt like the responsibility was just right so that I wasn't daunted by the task but felt like what I was doing had importance towards the project.
I've finished my University course but I think the placement will be useful in a foundation as I continue my career at ARUP.
The Company
It varied from day to day depending on how busy the office was. Some days were more lively than others, especially as it was the holiday season and people were away for periods of time. On the whole the atmosphere was always very friendly.
Very well, I was introduced to everyone on the first day as well as given an office briefing and all my IT systems etc were setup when I arrived.
Other colleagues took time out of their days to teach and help with what I was doing. I was also well paid for the duration of the internship.
Flexi Time
National Travel
They offered me a job on their grad scheme.
The Culture
I went on social outing with people in the office a number of times during my placement.
Very reasonable, nothing like London.
Nottingham has a great nightlife, I can recommend it from being a student!
Not so many involving sports but a few office societies do exist.
