The Role
Enjoyed it very much as I worked on three different projects and gained a lot of knowledge including the use of new software packages such as IES.
I felt very valued, they gave me enough support and considered my opinions. Very friendly environment.
I was given a lot of support and guidance throughout my placement while working on projects. Staffs were very helpful in explaining from the basics. I was personally given MSc Building Services text books from my supervisor to study furthe
First day not that busy but as I progressed through, I gradually busy and by the time my placement ended I had to work overtime to make sure I complete the task I was given and hand it over accordingly.
I was given right amount of responsibility at a time. My supervisor made a list of task he suggested I should complete before I finish my placement. So there was always something to do.
I am almost near the end of my degree course, but I can say that some modules I covered such as Heat Transfer really helped me in developing my skills at Arup. I feel that the skills I have gained sets the foundation towards my career with Arup.
The Company
Atmosphere in the office was very friendly and caring. Staff were very friendly and often they bring sweets for the group to eat.
The initial induction set up was okay. The placement it self could be improved, for future perhaps the staff could prepare tasks for the students to work on.
I was asked to go to the off-site briefing training session so that I can attend the construction sites for the projects I was working on.
Sports and Social Club
Company Parties/Events
Healthcare/Dental
There are many opportunities within Arup for range of background discipline.
The Culture
Yes, the fellow placement students would go out for lunch and socialise.
I live in the area so to me it was normal.
Didn't go out much at night.
Yes but did not get involved due to short period of placement.
