The Role
Overall, I found the work placement a valuable and enjoyable experience. It was challenging at the start but as I settled in to the work environment, everything became a lot easier.
I felt valued by my colleagues as a placement student, all the colleagues in the Finance department were friendly and approachable.
The support and guidance I received was excellent especially the first few months when I was settling in. My supervisor was always willing to help and if he wasn't available, there was always other colleagues I could talk to if I had a problem.
On a daily basis, I found my schedule manageable and felt I was given a sufficient amount of work to complete each month. However, there were a few situations where I had to work overtime to complete my tasks at month end.
I was given a large responsibility through out the year as a Financial Analyst. The experience I gained was relevant and valuable, this has helped me decide which kind of graduate job I will be applying for in the future.
The skills developed and training received during the year have helped me during my final year of studies. I now approach tasks from a different angle and can often relate useful experiences back to placement.
The Company
The general atmosphere in the office was a professional working environment but a fun place to work as all the other colleagues were easy to get on with.
The overall set up of work placement was well organised. We learned our job roles from the placements who were just about to finish before handing over our job roles to the new placements before leaving.
In terms of personal training and development, I felt opportunities were limited in places.

Company Parties/Events
It's difficult to say as the finance placements were told there would be no graduate jobs available once we finished our degrees.
The Culture
The social scene among the fellow placement students was very good. All the placements regularly met up out of work hours to socialise.
I lived in a shared house with a fellow placement paying £100 a week (all inclusive). There was also a local gym, pub, supermarket all in walking distance that are reasonably priced.
The nightlife was fairly lively at the weekends depending on personal preferences. There are a variety of bars and clubs in the town centre.
Yes, there was a variety of opportunities. The company had it's own 5 a side football team that would play on Monday evenings. Also, there's opportunities to join local clubs in the area or attend the gym.
