The Role
Working at the company was a great experience. The people were friendly and the job was very challenging.
Once upto speed the closest employees around you value you heavily as part of the team. However as expected some employees who dont know you see you as just a placement student and may not take you as seriously as you would prefer
The company was really great at bringing you up to speed with the job. There was lots of formal training and on the job training available. Also other employees were willing to help so long as they had the time.
My team kept me busy with tasks wherever possible and did not let my time go to waste. However we were also given the independence to ask for work and show our enthusiasm towards the job.
We were expected to be responsible for the tasks we were provided and to manage our own projects. However senior staff were always there for support if asked.
Working life and educational are two different experiences and after doing a placement year i now understand the great value of this work. I would recommend anyone who has the opportunity to take out a placent year to do so. Its not only great for graduate employement but slso increases your work ethic for the third year and helps you understand how you are as a person in industry. These are assets that are very valuable for a successful future career. As cliche as it sounds its very true. You have to experience it to believe it.
The Company
Everybody was hard working but during down time there were many laughs and great banter.
For myself i would say i had been given the short straw in terms of oppertunity to gain great experience. Nobody outside my team was not made aware of my lack of progress in my department and as a result some of my experience time was unfortunately wasted. The put me behind in terms of skill compared to my placement colleagues
I was given formal training. Also i was given personal progress training when the department realised i was falling behind due to the lack of exposed experience

Any experience in cummins is great for reemployment at the company. There are also opportunities for 3rd year sponsorship if you are chosen
The Culture
Yeah everybody for the most part were great. Social gatherings were always set up between student and/or collegues. It was a great way to find out more about the people I worked with.
The costs were relatively cheap. Comming from leeds was not a problem And very fuel consuming so as you didnt have to travel through the city centre in a morning.
Hiddersfield doesnt have the greatest nightlife compared to leeds. But you can still have a great time on a night out.
Many workers organised different events to catch up and get to know eachother although being a lot cheaper if cummins management could be involved as they subsided for half of the costs!!
