The Role
I really enjoyed my placement at EY and found it extremely rewarding and fun
I did feel valued by colleagues and like I was accepted as part of the team while I was on my internship which was nice. I was asked to do and complete rewarding tasks while I was there.
I had excellent support and guidance during my internship from my assigned Buddy and Counsellor as well as all members of EY that I worked with and met. Everyone was very nice and willing to help me out which made my internship so enjoyable.
Everyday I managed to find something to do, but some days were definitely a lots busier then others. Only twice during the 6 weeks I found myself with nothing to do. I did find myself saying that I could not take any more work on.
I was given a fair amount of responsibility during my internship considering I was an intern. Nothing I did for a client was not checked by a colleague. However I did work on projects with tight deadlines which required by section to be completed on time, which was quite stressful sometimes.
I do Natural Sciences, so the technical skills I learnt about Tax during my internship are having no effect on my degree studies. What I did learn I am sure will be useful when I start my job with EY. I found while I was there I learnt value skills about working in an office.
The Company
The general atmosphere in the office was very friendly and welcoming, but hard working. I am looking forward to working with the people I met next year.
The overall organisation of my internship as excellent. I always knew what I was doing. I enjoyed the induction and final event very much, definitely a high light for me of the internship.
Everyone in the firm was very happy to sit down and explain concepts to me. This made me feel comfortable to ask more questions because I know someone would take the time out of their busy schedule to make sure I understood a concept.
Very appealing, I have a graduate job with them
The Culture
The social side of the job was good. I attend some socials during my internship which I enjoyed greatly. I have met up with fellow placement students since the internship and believe we will all remain friends.
I lived at home and the socialising cost was what to be expected from Reading
The nightlife was ok, was nice bars to go to and the clubs were average.
I think there are opportunities, but nothing to really get involved with during the 6 weeks
