The Role
It was a fantastic experience for me that ultimately turned an interest into an ambition and a hunger to get stuck into the commercial property world.
Working in the Investment and Agency departments is on the transactional side of the industry so there is only so much responsibility an intern can be given. However much of the work that could be done, which the directors did not have time to do, I could fill in for them. I think this was certainly helpful and saved them valuable time.
Support was certainly there, however the whole ethos behind the internship I think was your approach and how far in a month you could get stuck in (independently). I was therefore surprised by the level of responsibility, this aspect added to experience.
When there was work it was flat out working hard. However being August many where away through out the experience on leave/holiday and therefore there were periods where there was no work. However I used this time valuably as it gave senior members of the firm time to talk to me and gain advice.
I was surprised by the level of responsibility. However as mentioned before with this specific experience I think when based on the consultancy side you can be given more responsibility. However with the transactional side like City Investment and agency there is only so much responsibility that you can be given. However I was always kept involved and busy.
Had I done this experience the previous year after my penultimate year at Brookes it would have certainly influenced my work. Firstly it would have given me a greater depth of knowledge and contacts to influence my work. Secondly and most importantly, the passion gained from doing the experience could have been taken into my final year of study.
The Company
Being August the office was quiet/ friendly atmosphere
Very well structured with mid term and end of term reviews. They were genuinely interested in our experience and what we got out of it.
I dont think that they invested directly on our development I was put in a very well structured environment that had everything already in place.
Company Parties/Events
I think doing the internship has given me a foot in the door, however more experience will need to be gained with a very competitive application/interview process, however I am confident that I have a shot at getting in on their rotation program.
The Culture
Yes but being based in the city and not the west end with the other interns I was a bit out the loop.
London is expensive! I tried to save!
