The Role
The work was challenging and the people are really great to work with.
I appreciate that I was not there particularly long so therefore not treated as a true, permanent member of the team. Nevertheless, everyone was really helpful and encouraging.
I was given great support whenever needed and even when my immediate supervisor wasn't there, someone else was always there and willing to help.
There were days when I didn't have a tremendous amount to do but always tried to keep myself busy. The less quiet times were appreciated when a deadline was a approaching towards the end of my placement.
The amount of responsibility that I was given was initially disappointing. However, I had to appreciate that the nature of the project was rather political and only one person really dealt with external clients (this is not the case for all projects). Furthermore, it meant that I could really focus on my technical skills and develop those.
The skills I have learnt are invaluable. Couldn't possible list them in this short space....!
The Company
The office is a bright, pleasant place to work and this is reflected by the people working there. Lots of out-of-work activities were available and plenty to get involved with. Overall, a lot of fun!
Really well organised. Great HR staff gave the induction and we always knew who to go to if any problems arose.
There's a multitude of resources available for personal training and development. I had access to some of these - which was excellent - however, it would seem that the training that's given to permanent members of staff (aka grads) is a lot more substantial.
Sports and Social Club
Applying for graduate roles is the same as anyone else but I think the chances are much greater after completing this internship.
The Culture
Fantastic! It's similar to a university atmosphere but with a professional touch. Plus almost everyone's an engineer!
London so expensive - but worth it.
Once again, London. Enough said surely.
Plenty of opportunities both with and without work colleagues. The group I was working in hold social events every month at least.
