The Role
It was fantastic. I met driven professionals, was involved in research and work that made a difference, and developed key communication skills that will help me with further work in any large organisation.
Highly valued. The organisation is driven by insights, and in being able to provide a new perspective on some area's of a brand I was made to feel welcome and that my opinion was heard.
My line manager balanced a mix of close guidance, and freedom. This enabled me to pursue my objectives in my own manner, making my own mistakes, but these mistakes and learnings were then scrutinised and worked through.
With four projects to focus on, and intermittent work for colleagues, I kept busy. Whether it was working on a new presentation, diving into fresh data, or meeting fellow associates to discuss progress, the work kept me busy for 13 weeks.
I had a large amount of responsibility from the get go. My large research project was left to me to decide how to pursue. I developed new copy/images for an on-line retail channel, then had to manage an internal research study.
Technical skills in using Nielsen Answers will help with future use of data provision software, however the main skills were in developing presentation narratives, and then personal relations.
The Company
The office environment was relaxed, with pets in the office, dress down Fridays, and a constant supply of chocolate. The culture is very much focused on open communication, hence all associates were approachable at their desk. We were able to be involved in two charity events, had a large marketing two day conference, and the interns often got together to go out in the evenings.
The organisation was fine, with a focus on development through doing. I was able to work on the projects with freedom, which allowed for the most effective development. The induction was short and sweet, which meant we were able to hit the ground running.
Due to the amount of time in the organisation, we were not able to participate in the main training scheme, however we were trained in using the data mining software. Personal development wise, my line manager and I had weekly catch ups to monitor progress, however we were encouraged to have more informal catch ups over breakfast/lunch etc.

I have been fast-tracked to the final stage of the application process for the MMDP graduate scheme.
The Culture
Yes, as all interns lived near the city we often met up in the evening to go for dinner, visit the cinema etc.
I was able to remain in my student accommodation, therefore the cost was quite low. The only higher cost was the fuel in travelling to and from work.
Living in Nottingham the nightlife is fantastic, a whole city of bars, clubs, pubs, restaurants.
There were many work clubs/social events, running clubs, football, charity activities. We did a charity cycle for an afternoon for example.
