The Role
It made me question whether engineering was really for me
I felt part of the family!
The structure to the internship was excellent. Early on I was given a challenging problem to solve and each week I would present my work and explain what I felt needed to be addressed, I was then guided towards the relevant stakeholders who were more than happy to help.
Not bored and not too busy, but I would have preferred to have been given more to do.
I was solely responsible for solving a complex engineering problem and was expected to present a design change solution to a board of chief engineers at the end of my placement.
I developed very few practical skills that would actually help my degree but an gained a vast insight into the world of business and engineering that will no doubt help my future career.
The Company
The office environment was pretty average, luckily I was in a team that liked to enjoy themselves and not take themselves too seriously.
It was well run, the company deal with hundreds of interns every year so it was everything you'd expect from a big employer.
I was put on various training days and investigative workshops that broadened my understanding and made me feel like a valued employee.
Once you're in it is very unlikely for them to not offer you future employment.
The Culture
I had a very sociable team around me and also a whole load of likeminded grads and interns.
Bristol!!
BRISTOL!
The graduate scheme offers loads of external activities but as interns it was harder to be a part of them.
