About You
I worked in the Employment department for a couple of weeks - they got me involved in as much work as they could over the fortnight. I accompanied one of the legal directors to a client meeting on the first day in the office, so they definitely tried to get me involved! I worked with a number of different fee earners, doing a good variety of work. This was balanced with good socials - a meal out with the partners, drinks (official and unofficial) and a couple of socials just for vac schemers and trainees. Definitely didn't get time to get bored.
Well, I went to meet a client on day one, so they must have been ok with me. Everyone took an interest, and my trainee buddy gave me 15 minutes at the end of the day to chat through how I was getting on, talk through any issues, discuss what I'd like to do next. I was very well looked after.
All the fee earners I worked with gave me good initial instructions, and feedback.
It was good to get used to an environment working with varied teams.
The Company
We had a training day in London at the start of the fortnight, which gave some good tips on how to get the most out of it. We had presentations learning about the practices in the morning. A good amount of time in the office, Good socials. I'm not sure what more PM could have done.
I had a nice group of vac schemers, some enthusiastic trainees and some excellent colleagues. Which makes for a very good general atmosphere!
We had training on the first day, and were asked what we wanted to get out of it. So we could focus our experience on what we wanted. If you were prepared to get involved, you could get a lot out of it.
I met a lot of people - which really helped give a good idea of things. People were honest about some of the downsides as well, which was important.
I think I got a fair view - as much as you can see in two weeks anywhere.
The placement confirmed to me that I would like to be a commercial solicitor.
Everything Else
I was paid for the fortnight and reimbursed expenses for getting to London for the first day.
Yes, meeting partners, fee earners, and trainees at a number of events.
Two evenings out, two drinks evenings. Very good, I went out with my team for a lunch and an evening out as well.
Yep - I discussed this with my trainee buddy.
