The Role
I throughly enjoyed my work placement, during the placement I was given a good amount of responsibility, whilst being based in a team. This meant I had great support throughout meaning I could enjoy my time and work.
In the first few weeks we had a great introductory experience in London, during this time I built an invaluable network of peers who could support me through the placement. Being able to compare experiences with my colleagues made my time at EY made the experience far more enjoyable.
Throughout my work experience I had regular meetings with my work counsellor allowing me to set my goals for the next six months. On top of this official route of support I was assigned a buddy who I could talk to for simple questions which helped me settle into the role.
As soon as I arrived at work I would be busy until the time I left, I was never bored during the day there were always tasks to complete or meetings scheduled. Due to the nature of the work being project based there was often a time pressure. Typically hours would be 9 - 6 , during busier periods this would be longer.
All the work I completed was entirely self-directed.. This was often driven by meeting with clients which I would hold on a one-to-one basis, this meant I would be responsible for all data I would collect and to communicate my findings up to the senior members of my team. If any issues arose from these processes I would discuss these with my team and look to resolve these issues individually.
My project management, writing and presentations skills learned will definitely be useful in my degree. Looking beyond that my exposure to the business world and interpersonal skills will definitely serve my in good stead in the furture.
The Company
The atmosphere would depend from team to team. We would always be based out on the client sites and the team chemistry would vary depending on the time pressures of the project.
It was incredibly well set up. The introduction, training and review were absolutely incredible.
A huge amount. Not only did I begin my technical ICAS training to become a chartered accountant, we were given regular business soft skills training. Meaning we were constantly improving our skills throughout the year which was really important due to the client exposure.

Very much, I was able to slightly alter my role and hope to join the firm as a graduate. Although this isn't the same position I fulfilled in my placement EY were very accommodating when I requested a change of roles.
The Culture
Unfortunately, we were based a client sites during the week. This would mean the team would have to drive to client sites, this meant that after work we were often away from home making socialising very difficult. We were able to have monthly drinks which were subsidised by the country.
The cost of living was very acceptable. I was living in Bath which is were I study at university meaning the living costs were as expected.
Great, in Bath I still enjoyed the student nightlife, however working in Bristol meant I was able to experience a different nightlife which was awesome.
Yes, each week, I played in the EY football team. This was a great social opportunity to meet people from other work areas.
