The Role
Working at Mars/ Wrigley was an amazing experience and has opened my eyes to an industry I didn't fully consider when thinking of possible employment following graduation. Now thanks to this internship I have found the area I wish to work in.
I felt extremely welcome and respected by everyone I came into contact with, I also was made to feel like a valued full time mature member of the team rather than an intern with little experience in the field.
I had weekly one to one meetings with my supervisor as well as regular contact through team meetings. My supervisor also made time for me if I was having any issues and I felt like there was always support there is needed by all team members.
There was never a dull day with multiple projects on the go allowing me to always be working on something with the ability to switch between projects.
Within the first week I was producing work that was being used as part of a research week which made me feel involved from the get go. I was given freedom to work in the manner I wanted which shows a great level of trust and responsibility.
I learnt specialist techniques that I am already implementing at University and these will be skills I carry through to future positions. I also learnt a great deal about how large companies function on both a global and local scale which was very interesting.
The Company
There was a great balance of working and socialising with the ability to bounce ideas off one another. The office space was also very creative with different work spaces available.
I was the first industrial design intern at the Oral Care Growth Centre and I could honestly say it was if they had had many before me due to the structure of the internship being seamless.
As well as personal development training in the initial induction I also received a mid term review where my strengths and areas for improvement were assessed and advice given on moving forward. At the end of the placement I had another review where they were assessed again and advice given for future development while at University.

I received great feedback from the team and we will be talking about possible employment following my final year at university. Fingers crossed!
The Culture
I met up with the Mars interns a few times for drinks as well as regularly having lunch with the interns based in my office.
The area was more expensive to live in than I am used to but the wage I was getting was representative which was good.
The local nightlife wasn't great but London was only a short distance away and I spent many weekends there which was fantastic.
I went for many meals with my colleagues as well as regular drinks etc.
