The Role
Both 6 month placements carried out were very enjoyable offering a great insight into the food industry
Despite being a placement student I was made to feel like a valued member of the team and treated like any other staff member
The management full understood that I would need sufficient guidance and support having had little experience prior to my placement with them. They were absolutely brilliant at helping me settle in and overcome challenges which i faced.
On the whole, every day was incredibly busy which meant that time flew by.
In order to develop on a personal level as well as develop managerial skills I was given a lot of responsibility which really saw me grow as a person and expand skills which I will find very useful in the future.
Being able to apply what i have learnt in industry to my degree will definitely help me as i have learnt how to lead, guide, encourage and develop not only myself but a team of people. I am confident that the training i have recieved will also hugely benefit certain areas of my course.
The Company
After initial complications with regards to office space, the general atmosphere was brilliant. Everyone had a great sense of humour and was able to have a laugh despite working under pressure. (its also good fun being the only girl in the office!!!!!)
Really take into consideration your needs and wants and ensure that not only they but YOU benefit from your experience
Sent me on numerous courses and trips to other Bakerys to expand my knowledge of the Food Industry
Flexi Time
Subsidised Canteen
Sports and Social Club
Subsidised/Company Gym
Company Parties/Events
Staff Sales/Staff Shop
Samworth Brothers appears to be the type of company where i feel i can flourish and can see myself settling for my career.
The Culture
Myself and the other placement students in the south west often met up for drinks and meals which was great!Having worked and socialised with one for the whole year I feel I've made a friend for life :-)
I was able to find a flat which i could afford to rent happily in Plymouth and still had plenty of money left over to do the socialising I wanted to do
Cinema, bowling, pubs, clubs ... you name it and they've got it! Absolutely FANTASTIC!! There isn't many places with such a varied choice as Plymouth. The Barbican & Hoe Front is one of a kind
Active Workplace enables you to participate in loads of activities outside of work involving a huge range of activities!
