The Role
Throroughly enjoyed my time at Verizon, a great experience and gained a variety of great skills in which I can take back to University and develop throughout my professional career.
I got on well with my colleagues and everyone was friendly and welcoming from day one.
I had weekly calls/updates with my line manager, I also had regular meetings with Vince who runs the internships at Verizon. Furthermore, I was given the task to do a 4 week, 3 month and 6 month formal review.
I was kept busy but also had time to get lunch and take breaks etc.
The first 3 months I had to report into business owners on a regular basis and after my 3 month review an objective was set for me to be more assertive and independent and therefore, I took on a much higher responsibility.
They will be skills for life, from data analytical skills to communication I will use throughout my degree and beyond.
The Company
Generally pretty good, Friday's a lot of people worked from home, but it was always a busy environment to work in which was nice!
It was very well organised from Day 1 with meetings with Vince who runs the internships and also regular meetings with my line manager. I also thought it was structured very well as we had reviews regularly and set objectives etc so we could reflect on our learnings, achievements, skills and things on which to improve.
I had a lot of personal training, in week 1 I was on Class of 2014 which is a week long training course, and further more to that I had to do 4 hours compulsory training courses a week on the Verizon Knowledge site.

I am not sure as to the employment prospects having completed my placement, it is the one thing I would criticise about the company. They don't seem to branch the time worked at Verizon into a future career for us interns, we have worked in the company and got to know employees and the internal runnings of the business, so this is somthing that has surprised me.
The Culture
There was 14 interns, and we decided to do our own intern events and the company sponsored one of them by giving us £25 each to do something social.
I lived at home, and the only cost I incurred was transport as I had to pay for my petrol to and from work which was around £40 a week.
The nightlife in Reading is pretty good it is a University town so there is a lot of bars/clubs and pubs to visit!
Yes, if you knew/could find the right people, I was fortunate enought to sit opposite the captain of cricket, who got me playing for the Verizon cricket team throughout the summer.
