The Role
I had not considered a career in software before applying, but now am seriously considering applying for a job with Metaswitch when I leave university
They were all incredibly welcoming, and happy to help with any problems I had. I could not have asked for a better team to be part of.
I had a mentor who would help me with any question, and encouraged me to develop my own skillbase to deal with problems.
Some days early on I felt a little overwhelmed, and towards the end it was difficult to find projects I could finish in time, but in general it was very good, and when it wasn't perfect they were very apologetic and helpful.
I was given real jobs to do, not simply throwaway tasks.
It has greatly improved my time management and communication skills. I have also learnt a new programming language and gained confidence in working in the one I already know, as well as a certainty I could learn a new one if need be.
The Company
Fun, friendly, welcoming. A good social scene outside work and a great support network inside.
I was clear from the start what I would be doing, how I would be paid and what it would involve.
I always felt like giving me skills was a key component, and much time was invested in showing me how to develop myself.
Subsidised Canteen
Sports and Social Club
Financial Bonus
Company Parties/Events
I have been offered a follow-up internship, and advised that I would be able to do the job full time once I graduate.
The Culture
Although having the Fringe Festival on did make it expensive, the subsidised rooms were much appreciated
Good, but I didn't get too involved
