The Role
To a certain extent I enjoyed the internship many of the team members I worked with were extremely nice and in some areas of the building I was in always treated me with curtsey. However I never felt pushed or felt any real sense of guidance from my managers, as if they were not sure what to do with me. The environment also felt stifling, with the overall manager of the team who ran my area a very negative presence.
By my team members I definitely felt were very appreciative of the work I was doing. Alongside this my managers felt I was hitting all my objectives, however I did not feel that appreciated, to a certain extent I felt my managers were not aware of what I was being groomed for in terms of the job.
Once again to a certain extent I was there certainly was some structure though in my opinion it was the wrong sort. Where other interns I was working with were being sent to dee the head of their function and sitting in on high powered meetings I was left to form my own objectives. I also felt that I had to remind my managers to set me objectives to ensure that the deadlines from human resources was met.
I worked a 9 to 5 shift the amount of work would vary from day to day one day you wont stop till the end others you had very little to do, however this was mainly due to waiting on people in other areas of the operation to return their side of the work. However past the half way mark my day tended to end at 4 with nothing to left to do for the final hour so I would just sit there. You may ask why didnt I find work to do, half the team left at 4 and the other half never gave me anything, However for some reason my managers refused to let me leave before 5 while other interns were given half days if they finished their work, I had to sit there till 5.
A large amount with an oversight from my manager.
It certainly helped me understand office behavior and working life and the kind of skills senior leaders have.
The Company
It was alright sometimes when the head of the area wasn't there, but when he was it had a very sour tone. He was quite a boorish manner who had a horrible manner and hence kept everyone on edge. When my managers were there who were below him in hierarchy it was more relaxed so definitely they lacked any sense of humor or displayed any humanity which I think is poor and will hamper their chances in the future.
Moderately well Lloyds organised good opening and closing ceremonies.
They provided seminars which were incredibly boring and in effect just provided interns with 2 hours out of their day they could spend sitting in a conference room chatting. My managers also bless them for trying provided me with learning sessions with ops managers though to me this seemed too low lever for where i was expecting to fit into the company and hopefully end up, my experience compared to others was basic.
Subsidised Canteen
To a certain extend very exciting its a big company with lots of money for high salaries and plenty of opportunities, however the area I was working in was extremely boring.
The Culture
Yes they were all really nice apart form two who had massive inferiority complexes and hence saw themselves as stereotypical bankers so were quite vile. The others all lovely people we all went out and keep in contact.
