The Role
The placement offers great support by members of the team. I enjoyed the amount of knowledge and experience I gained about the processes, products and the services offered by a large corporate.
I get along very well with other colleagues in the team as it is a small team with less than ten people. The interns frequently host social events and these are good networking opportunities as well.
My manager sits next to me so support and guidance is always available. My allocated buddy is also very helpful in answering my questions and teaching me role-related skills.
This depends on your role. When members of the team were on leave for example I have more work to do. At times it can be a bit quiet and you need to actively seek for work.
If the issue is too complex you are likely to play a support role to a collegaue, if it is relatively straight forward than you may take full ownership of the issue/project.
Networking skills and knowledge on the industry will certainly benefit me in future.
The Company
Most people work from home so the atmosphere is variable from quiet on Fridays to really busy on Mondays.
There wasn't a very strong sturucture- tasks are generally given as they come in but this has to do with the nature of your role.
This is an area where the company is quite good at as there are a lot of resources online or otherwise available and managers are generally happy for you to take time to train.
Financial Bonus
Can't really comment on this as this is not a final year placement. However I am aware that there are plans in place to offer positions to those who perform well on their placement.
The Culture
Aside from the intern social events, there wasn't a lot going on. Occasionally there are BBQs and 'mingle' events.
Prices for renting are quite expensive in Reading. Other than that the prices seem to be in line with other cities in the UK.
There is a lively social scene when the university students start their term.
Not really, there were volunteering events that you can do for HR but that's about it.
