    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • The job was varied and I got to try loads of different roles and really get stuck in

    4/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • I never felt like an intern there, I really felt part of the team

    5/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • I had a fantastic manager during my time there and when I wasn't sure on which pathway to take once I returned to uni, a number of managers in different areas sat down and spoke to me about working life within the potential pathway options.

    4/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • It varied. When we had a massive project on I was rushed off my feet but during dip times (these were rare) I didn't have much to do

    4/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • Lots of responsibility and I was talking to HOD's and senior managers on a daily basis

    4/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I've learnt a lot more about time management and prioritising. I've also learnt the most valiable lesson in that you can't do everything and it's ok to ask for help if you're really busy/need assistance. At first I was worried about asking for help as I may look like I didn't know what I was doing but then I realised there's nothing wrong with asking for help.

    4/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • Really good. It's such a relaxed environment in all the VM offices and I worked in a really good team that meant I enjoyed my day to day life in the office.

    5/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • Really good. I had my doubts as it was the first year of the placement year at Virgin Media but it all ran really smooth and the managers were constantly asking if we had any improvements or changes we'd like to make for the future.

    4/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • I went on a number of training courses and conferences during my year at Virgin Media. I was also able to do my MBTI course there free of charge which is really beneficial to future work. Having come back to uni, my lecturers were shocked that VM had invested the money to pay for all the interns to do the testing.

    5/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Flexi Time

    Subsidised Canteen

    Subsidised/Company Gym

    National Travel

    Financial Bonus

    Company Parties/Events

    Working from home

    Healthcare/Dental

    3/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • I'd love to go back and work for Virgin Media as I think it's a company full of opportunities and chances to progress. They really push people to reach their full potential and as it's such a massive company, there are so many potential jobs to try out.

    4/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • Yes, the grads and interns at VM are all made to feel part of a community where they can ask questions, work together and make friends. We also took part on a few days out the office for bonding and team building amongst the grads and interns which was really good fun.

    4/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • I lived at home during my placement so I'm not entirely sure.

    3/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • I worked in the Hook office (head office) and most of the grads and interns lived in Reading and travelled in. As Reading is a university town, the nightlife was really good. Lots going on.

    4/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • Within the grad community lots of people met up outside of work and socialised. I used to meet outside of work with some of the girls and go for dinner and I still see them now despite being back at uni.

    3/5
