The Role
I absolutely loved my placement year. I was given a great amount of responsibility, I felt valued as an associate and I had great colleagues and line managers and cared about my development.
I felt greatly valued and listened to during meetings and encounters. I found that some of my recommendations and opinions were incorporated into daily business at Mars.
I had fantastic support from my line managers. I had weekly 1-2-1 meetings to discuss my functional development- how my projects were going and if they could offer any help, and also personal development- how I was feeling about specific improvements I intended to make.
The work came in waves. During the busiest times of year- the sell in's to all of the major buyers- the work was pretty crazy and I was working later than usual. However, on a daily basis I left the office at the right time, but always had more to do which was good.
I was given projects which I was able to lead, however, these were obviously checked off by my line manager and executed jointly. I enjoyed the level of responsibility and if it ever got too much I felt comfortable speaking to my line manager.
I had the most incredible year and feel that I am now able to understand job applications and recognise skills that I now have. In terms of my degree, I have found daily life at Mars has really helped me understand topics as I have lived them. Beyond- well I have now sorted out a graduate role as I felt confident applying with my experience and know what they look for.
The Company
Professional, but great fun when it was the right time. The brands made life fun in the office.
It was well organised, however, some of the training was not so well organised and seemed a little last minute.
I had mentors, line managers and other colleagues in the department that were willing to give up their time to help me progress.

Working from home
Within the organisation I was offered a direct entry role, however, was unsuccessful on making it onto the MMDP programme.
The Culture
Not really, there were 5 placement students. I got on really well with 3...so had 3 student friends at work which is small but was nice.
Slough is not the life of the party. I lived about 40 minutes away from work at my family home so never really socialised in the area because there was nothing to do.
non-existent.
Not really...
