The Role
I enjoyed the experience immensely and feel I learnt a lot about the working environment, and office life in the City.
I was made to feel very welcome at the beginning of my placement, however I didn't feel that this was maintained throughout my placement. Very little work was directed towards me for quite a substantial amount of time. I also felt that I was being heavily judged by a lot of people in the business which made me lose confidence in who I am slightly.
One member of the team took on the role as manager, which he did very well. I felt I could ask him questions and address him for more work when I didn't have enough to do. He was very good at trying to find tasks to occupy me and keep me interested.
It was very changeable, some days I had very little to do and others I was quite busy.
Very little responsibility was given to me, however I was asked to make phone calls and send out letters myself.
I don't think it was the skills that I developed through the work I did necessarily, but the general experience of commuting to London and working in a City office was very insightful for helping me figure out what environment I would like to work in, in the future.
The Company
The department I was in was very quiet and there seemed to be a rift between my supervisor and the rest of the team, which made me feel more like a spare part.
Savills HR organised the placement very well. We were given clear instructions and advise all the way through as summer interns and special events were organised to enhance our experience, broaden our knowledge and give us the opportunity to meet the other interns.
Departmental talks were organised for us to learn about the different areas of the business. My work related travel was paid for, and I received payment based on a yearly salary of approximately £13,000 pa.
Sports and Social Club
Company Parties/Events
Above 25 days holiday
Healthcare from home
I would very much like to work for Savills, but I am also considering other companies, which might be more suited to my personality.
The Culture
There were events organised by Savills HR, but we also arranged a few get-togethers ourselves.
London is very expensive
The City is generally not a nightspot.
Few options being based in the City, I think there was more on offer in the West End
