The Role
Great exposure to Shell's North Sea operations and the opportunity to complete a project that will make a real difference
I was welcomed into the team and given support during my settling in period. My colleagues valued my work and set aside time to support me if needed.
I was encouraged to go out on my own and identify how to complete my project however support and guidance was available from everyone, all i needed to do was ask. Mentor and supervisor were always at hand for any questions I had
This varied as a lot of my work was dependent on inputs from others so some days very busy. I was able to extend my project scope so I was kept relatively busy throughout. In addition i gained the opportunity to visit some of Shell's UK sites as part of my work which was very interesting.
I was left to progress with my project and was solely responsible for delivery of the project.
The interpersonal skills I learnt compliment the technical knowledge I have developed in my studies
The Company
This varied, due to the challenging nature of the work some days people were very busy but most days it was very calm and relaxed
Very well structured with set assessments at regular stages. Buddy, Supervisor and Mentor all allocated to support throughout.

There is an opportunity to gain further employment, either returning for a second internship or a place on the graduate scheme. The outcome of the internship is revealed at the end. I was successful on my internship and find the range of opportunities available to graduates extremely appealing.
The Culture
There were a large group of interns in Aberdeen and a very social graduate society. We were invited to monthly networking drinks as well as black tie events.
Accommodation in Aberdeen is relatively expensive, approx £115 per week. Food, drink etc, is reasonably priced
