The Role
A really enjoyable two weeks, a great insight into commercial law and a lot of fun too.
I felt hugely valued, and this is the point I would really emphasise about a Taylor Wessing vacation scheme. Everybody in the firm from paralegals to partners was massively approachable and will take time out of busy schedules to deal with a multitude of questions. The policy is truly open door and at no point did I feel as though I was a hindrance, everybody was immensely friendly.
Loads of help was offered, as mentioned in above question. Nobody was ever too busy to answer questions and help out, which was great.
It is very difficult for a legal firm to give vacation scheme students, at varying stages in their studies, a lot of responsibility. I gave this 5 stars, but it's not at all a criticism, it is unrealistic to expect a lot of responsibility on a two week placement before you have finished your legal studies. Even so, I never felt the work I was doing was pointless, it always felt like a part of the bigger project, which is a nice feeling.
Certainly it helped to have legal studies actually put into practice, and made me realise in what ways the law is applied in practice. Again, the placement was only two weeks and so I wouldn't say that you have the chance to develop hugely as a lawyer in that time, but it certainly provides a valuable insight and good experience.
The Company
Really busy, vibrant and friendly! Things going on all the time, a great energy about the place but not too high stress, just a really good working environment.
Genuinely seamless. From the opening day presentations, to the support structures of buddies and supervisors to all the great social events, it really was terrificaly well organised.
A difficult question to answer regarding a two week placement but there was certainly plenty of time and patience committed to bringing me up to speed with what was going on in each case and making sure I was able to participate.

Company Parties/Events
I was offered a training contract on the back of the vacation scheme so the opportunity is certainly there for future employment.
The Culture
Definitely. The other vacation students were brilliant and we had loads of fun at comedy club, went bowling, went for a brick lane curry, played some touch rugby and enjoyed that Friday feeling in quite a few of the nearby bars! Really nice crowd and a great vibe amongst the group.
It's central London so pretty pricey but you are getting paid by the firm and it's only two weeks so it's not a huge problem. Also, almost all of the events are sponsored by the firm, so you don't need to worry about money much.
Really fun. There's lots of law firms around the area and so Friday nights were great, awsome atmosphere and really busy.
There was something on most nights to be honest, the firm offers so much outside of the office and are so welcoming to vacation student who want to get involved. In the two weeks I was there, there was football, rugby, rounders, pro bono legal work, barbecues, department parties and loads more.
