The Role
A great environment to work in. The right combination of drive, intellectual challenge and work-life balance. I feel my internship challenged me to perform across the board and highlighted areas I should work on.
My colleagues valued my input and I felt they wanted me to be there, and to be part of the team. Although I was an intern, I felt that I was able to add value and in return my colleagues helped me to learn and exposed me to various aspects of the business.
UBS places a lot of value in the internship programme and this shows through the help and support given by colleagues and managers. The support network is available and open, if you're willing to take the first step to approach it.
How busy you are is a function of what you seek to gain and what is available to be done. I felt that at all times there was something available for me to be doing. The tasks could range from training courses to helping out the team or working on a longer term project.
As far as being an intern goes, I believe I was given a lot of responsibility. Several of the projects/tasks I worked on had a positive impact with my team.
Picked up and learnt new terminologies and skills very quickly. I saw how my degree was applied outside of academia, motivating me further in my studies. All the training given was relevant to helping one to succeed in a business environment, especially the assistance given to develop presentational skills.
The Company
The tempo followed the market. At most times the atmosphere was upbeat and people were always friendly. Unless things were very busy, people would make the time to chat with you or show you how their desk operates. There is a strong sense that the work-life balance is valued.
Generally very well organised. Any issues were down to the nature of the business, ie last minute room changes.
I feel UBS invests a lot into its interns (and employees) through the various programs available. If I wanted to learn something new or experience how a different desk operated, I was perfectly free to. In terms of personal development, I feel there was a strong support network available with upfront advice on how to better achieve certain goals.

Very excited to be returning summer 2015.
The Culture
Some good events organised by UBS and a lot of events organised between interns and colleagues.
Cost of living is fairly high but to be expected for central London. City is an active area on Thursday and Friday evenings, or during broadcast sporting events.
City is very close to Shoreditch and Hoxton, both of which are known for their nightlife.
Being London there are opportunities available non-stop, with many activities organised between interns.
