The Role
I thoroughly enjoyed my 4 week internship in the Midlands Campus office. Having done an internship at Arup the previous summer, the opportunity to work for them again was extremely enriching and I have taken away a lot of valuable experience from my internships.
I felt valued by my colleagues. I was given responsibility to complete tasks on my own and trust was placed in me to deliver these tasks to the required Arup standard.
My colleagues and managers frequently gave me guidance on my work and were happy to talk to me about future opportunities at Arup and working in general in the field of consulting.
Given that during my 4 weeks I was working on around 3 projects simultaneously, the workload was sufficient for me to have work every day that needed to be completed in order to progress on the projects I was involved with.
I was given responsibility to complete the tasks and work that was assigned to me within the time frame given to me. I also had to opportunity to travel to the London office for one day in order to work with colleagues in London and I had the opportunity to sit in on a meeting with a client.
I am currently in my final year at university. During my internships with Arup I gained numerous skills and valuable experience in the field of consulting, My time at Arup confirmed my desire to pursue a career in Consulting and the skills I learned have most definitely assisted me in my degree studies.
The Company
The general atmosphere in the office was of a professional manner. The Transaction Advice team within which I worked in consisted of around 4-5 people, so I got to know my colleagues quite well.
I am of the opinion that my internship was very well organised and set up.
My colleagues took numerous opportunities to talk to me about my work at Arup, my degree and my future career plans and aspirations. In this respect, I believe that the company, or the people who work for the company, were very pro active in aiding my development.
Future employment prospects within Arup are very appealing. My experience at Arup has consolidated my view of the consulting sector and I will be applying to Arup for a graduate position.
The Culture
I only conversed with fellow interns and graduate colleagues during the working day, but nevertheless I got the impression that there is a good social scene.
During my placement I lived and home and commuted into the offices.
N/A
Given the length of my internship i did not actively seek to get involved in activities outside of work.
