The Role
My team has adopted Scrum, giving huge flexibility to me and my team. It also means that there is a lot of opportunity to enjoy your placement as the team is a very strong unit and do a lot of activities together.
I feel the team really welcomed me into the team when I joined. Certain individuals took it upon themselves to teach me and train me in areas I was new to. I would take part in all aspects of work as if I was a fully contributing member of the team.
Originally, I was assigned a manager who was generally too busy to take time out. However, he had delegated the responsibility to another member of the team who did have more time. She has since helped and guided me in any aspect of improvements in the workplace as well as self-improvements with goals I have set myself.
A lot of the work requires a lot of domain knowledge and never having worked in industry, I did not have the experience to make up for the lack of knowledge. It meant the work I could do was limited, however, it solely depends on the individual. If you decide to take on more work, that is up to you.
I was valued as a full member of the team. My input was as valuable as anybody else in the team.
I think that the experience of being treated as a true member of the team has given me skills that will be useful for the rest of my career. It has taught me what to expect in industry as well as teach me how to transition the skills and knowledge I acquire from university into the workplace.
The Company
A lot of fun all the time, a lot of work going on all the time as well. Almost the perfect office atmosphere.
I think there was some issues with the initial setup of the placement, perhaps a lack of communication between HR and the team I was placed into. However, I was put into a really good team and they have made up for the initial lack of organisation.
They encourage me to go to events and conferences for my own benefit. They allow me to work on real life projects meaning I have picked up many new skills since I started. They are always willing to teach me when I cross something new and they always refer me to books and other resources to teach me more.

They have a graduate scheme where it appears to just get better, If i was offered a position, I would absolutely accept it.
The Culture
Although nothing was formally set up for all the placement students, if you go ahead and attempt to find any other intern to socialise, they are usually up for it.
It depends on the individual. The pay is more than enough to keep you partying and living in a really nice area. But if you decide you want to live and party cheaper, the option is always there.
There is always so much going on all the time, the only worry is trying to get through everything there is to offer.
Absolutely. But it solely depends on the individual. If you look for something, you will find it.
