The Role
My placement was in quite a different area to my degree subject. I found learning new material very refreshing and quickly developed a keen interest in commodities trading.
I felt very values by my colleagues; they gave me real tasks to help the team and were keen to give me support whenever I asked, indeed they all took pleasure in sharing their knowledge of the industry with me.
I was given good support by my manager. He arranged meetings for me in my first week to meet the team and get me up to speed with the role of the team within the whole business.
I was kept fairly busy. I also felt that I had enough work to get on with but I never felt swamped by work.
Considerable responsibly. By week 5 (half way through) I was in charge of running the Value at Risk procedure (the key function of the Risk Control team).
I have already graduated, however they will assist my future career development no end. I have developed a good entry level understanding of commodities trading and financial risk management.
The Company
Friendly and hard working.
Well set up, we there was a lunch and learn session nearly every week to gain exposure to the different business functions within the company.
They provided me with lots of reading to get a better understanding of the industry
Subsidised/Company Gym
