The Role
I enjoyed this placement very much.
The colleagues were very friendly and helpful, and especially nice and patient to freshers. It was amazing to work with brilliant people in Arup.
The people I reported to often gave me sufficient support in the given tasks and they were always there when I sought help.
This depended on the jobs. For most of time, I was busy with the given tasks during working hours. When I was not assigned any jobs, there were also many materials available, such as books and electrical drawings, for me to do some self-learning.
I involved in a few fantastic projects and I believe I have made contributions to most of them.
During this placement, I acquired relevant knowledge on electrical building services and developed my skills in using various modelling softwares. Most of the knowledge was combined with practical applications, which will be very helpful for my future degree studies. More importantly, I also learned how to communicate effectively with the project manager, clients and my colleagues. Working with talented Arup people was a very valuable experience to me as well.
The Company
That was an relaxing and bright open-space office. I could see that people were busy with their own jobs but I did not feel tense.
This work placement involved many different electrical tasks and the most exciting part was the site visits. However, as a vacation student in electrical team, I have also done many mechanical jobs. Honestly speaking, they were beneficial for my future career in electrical services of a building. Nevertheless, I would be grateful if this electrical engineering placement involved more technical tasks on electrical.
