The Role
I really enjoyed my placement as I was constantly learning. What I learned in university made sense as I used it in real projects. I was able to work on various projects doing the same things as a graduate.
My colleagues were all professional at all times and there was mutual respect between us. This helped me to develop and work effectively in a team. They always answered any questions I had regarding work.
Whenever I required work, I would ask them and they would sort out something for me. They insured that I was given a challenging task through which I can learn as much as I can.
I would plan my tasks at least a week in advance with my supervisor to make sure that I kept my self busy and motivated. One of the team I was involved in, had many projects and I worked on all, this kept me interested and I was able to follow all the projects within that small but effective team.
I felt like a graduate because of the tasks given to me and when I produced something they trusted what I did. The project manager sometimes informed me of changes that had to be made to the work I produced this was due to his longer engineering experience.
You can work in different departments and this will help you with the modules in university and in future work. The most important aspect of the placement was the fact that you work on some of the most important projects within a professional team.
The Company
Professional, I was able to connect with anyone in the company and most people that I met were aspirational to me.
I was able to work longer during the summer as another team were busy and they required assistance. Thus, the placement was flexible.
I was able to go on site after a safety briefing in which I was given all my safety wear. At the end of the placement they asked me which department I would like to work in the future.
Company Parties/Events
Very, as the company wins some of the best projects in the world.
The Culture
I used to interact with them during lunch.
I am a londoner so it was the same.
