The Role
I really enjoyed the 10-week internship!
From day one I felt a part of the team and felt that the work I carried out had a real impact on the business.
There was always someone who would be happy to help if you had any questions or concerns.
I never felt like I had too much work and very rarely did I have to stay late to complete tasks.
Every task I was assigned had relevance to the team and never once did I feel I was given work "for the sake of it". I was solely responsible for tasks/projects assigned to me, but there was always someone available incase I needed guidance.
The skills I learnt were invaluable. Communication and problem solving skills are vital in this role (more so than mathematical ability) and I was able to develop these noticeably during the internship.
The Company
Very entertaining, relaxed and hardworking. Being an open plan office, this atmosphere resonated throughout.
Almost perfect - there was a structured 3-day introduction scheme before the work began, as well as a mid-internship and end-internship HR-organised event.
During the 3-day induction, we had an insightful introduction to insurance talk, as well as high-profile managers from various business areas come in and talk to us. When we separated into our various business functions, there were further opportunities to attend presentations, talks and skill sessions.
Excellent!
The Culture
There was a great social scene amongst fellow interns and I've lost count the number of times we met up for lunches, after work drinks and nights out.
Expensive! A typical lunch would set you back £5-6/day, a dinner would be £20+/person and a pint is usually £5. When you include travel and rent it does add up!
London has a lot of choice in terms of pubs and clubs nearby!
As an employee, AIG have a number of societies and groups that you can join. They host a wide variety of talks across the country that you can attend. One such example was a talk on developing your personal brand hosted in Croydon.
