The Role
Really interesting and varied work, in an environment where everyone is happy to give you their time. No making cups of tea!
Given a great deal of responsibility and support to achieve meaningful tasks
Worked directly with a Senior Engineer throughout the placement
Occasionally too busy! With friday deadlines before client meetings on a monday. But this is far better than twiddling your thumbs!
After an initial period of learning, I was given more and more responsibility.
The work reinforced knowledge from university as well as changing the way I was able to think and analyse a big problem.
The Company
An office is an office at the end of the day, but certainly a good experience compared to other engineering placements. People were friendly and plenty of conversation outside of work topics.
The work was very reactive rather than structured due to the nature of the project, however if anything this helped maintain interest as everyday was different. From day one my IT login worked, which is rare! I had a H&S and HR induction.
Arup as a company really does live up to its core values
Flexi Time
Sports and Social Club
Offered a job following the placement. Job Accepted.
The Culture
Large number of graduates - sports, and evening drinks
Newcastle is cheap...
Newcastle has a good nightlife
