The Role
All members of the team provided a great basis of support throughout the year where they were friendly and easy to approach which helped me to settle into the internship. As a team, we were able to pull together and work throughout many pressurised situations to hit the targets required no matter what the circumstances.
My direct manager was an excellent mentor and support from my first day at GE till the day I finished. He certainly eased my settling into the corporate world and provided great guidance and advice on all areas of my internship, including tasks which required a second opinion and further referral. This also stretched into the regular 1-2-1 meetings we held on a monthly basis to discuss performance and development areas, and as a support for my university placement portfolio review processes, which required his regular involvement.
As well as the day to day responsibilities, there was also the chance to proactively get involved in other tasks for the wider team and company outside the usual role. Therefore there was always a sufficient amount of work and a sound balance.
One of the key positives of the experience was the amount of responsibility given to me during my placement where on a day to day basis I was given sole responsibility to manage client requests and make my own decisions with my own authority.
Working on a day to day basis with financial statements and a variety of clients across the globe improved both my analysis and overall commercial acumen which has benefited my studies on return to university. I also developed numerous relevant skills to set up and create a challenging but fulfilling career in the future.
The Company
Hard working but at times a great environment to work in where everyone within our GE business new each other (150+ people).
As the first interns within my team the overall training and settling in process was very smooth.
First week was dedicated to intense training of role and company. Further integrating into the team then happened for another few weeks and then continuous support given throughout when responsibility given.

The Culture
Yes within the GE Capital office based in Manchester all interns were introduced to each other and the social life of university remained throughout the week/weekend.
Manchester is a great night out.
Yes opportunities such as five aside teams as well as numerous birthday/team meals and drinks.
