The Role
I did enjoy the placement however the job is generally not that varied for an intern so it can become quite mundane especially towards the end.
The job isn't that technically difficult so you do pick it up quite quickly. Because of this you are pretty much just like any other person in the office so your work is very much valued.
Initially I had 5 days training split into 3 days first week and 2 days second week all at head office. This was good and very informative. Once I was actually in the branch training was limited and I found myself asking my colleagues to teach me a lot of things.
Very! which personally I liked. Working hours are 8-6 and they go by in a flash.
I was given as much responsibility as any other Management Trainee (grad role) except summer interns are not allowed to drive the cars. Same as any other job if you show willingness and are good and the jobs they've given you, you will get more responsibility.
I have developed my interpersonal skills a lot purely from the amount of customer facing work you have and also my organisational skills as you will always have 5/6 things to do but not enough time to do them. In terms of my degree it has probably helped me slightly but will be more useful as I start my career.
The Company
Stressed most of the time. It is a busy environment and you have to be able to think on your feet. personally I liked that.
Initially the training was very well thought out after that it wasn't bad but I think there are a few things that could be ironed out.
Not greatly, maybe this would of been different if I was there longer
I was offered a job so its nice to have the option when I've graduated.
The Culture
Not really, saw them all initially at training and that was it.
Lived at home.
Its Newport....
The company does promote it but not really for summer interns
