The Role
I was placed on the mobile team at JP. The experience was great, I learned more than I did in the last 3 years of university. To know that projects that I was working on was something that will actually be used by people on a daily basis was the most rewarding part.
Even though I was an intern, with no experience in the industry, I was respected by my team and I felt like I have been part of them for years. From the manager straight through to the new grads, everyone was trying to make me feel as welcome as possible.
Weekly meetings ensured that there was constant feedback from me to the manager and vice versa.
As software development goes, you get days where you are stuck on fixing one bug and then you get days where you write an entire feature. It depends on what part I was working on, but I always had a challenge waiting for me in the morning, which excited me to go into work.
As mentioned above, even though I was an intern, I was given enough responsibility to feel part of the team.
Definitely to a great extend. The things I learned in 3 months will definitely be applied on other projects I take on and as for working in such a large company the experience was incredible.
The Company
Fun and relaxed. Everyone knew when work was to be done, but there was a start up feel that created a great environment to work in.
Some of the presentations and talks was a bit too much and sometimes not too relevant to everyone. But I guess with such a big company and so many departments, it is not an easy task to cater for just one set of people.
Online training was freely available to us at all times.
Healthcare/Dental
I got offered a job and signed without any hesitation.
The Culture
Most of the interns in technology did not participate in too much socialising during my time.
Fairly priced.
N/A as I lived in a different city during my placement.
Not too much.
