The Role
The internship was a great experience that taught me a lot about the corporate world and how a bank works.
My colleagues were great to work with - very friendly and helpful.
My boss was great at giving me feedback and ways I could improve. I also had the chance to meet with several directors and managing directors which have me a great insight into a career at Barclays.
My internship was during the peak time for my team's workload and so I was thrown in to various processes and learnt a lot about the jobs my team were assigned to.
I was given a fair amount of responsibility in terms of my daily workload and management of my schedule.
I learned a lot from working in such a large company. The internship taught me much about how a bank works and many different parts of finance. This will give the real life knowledge I need for the future and for completing my finance degree.
The Company
The office was always lively even in times of heavy workload. Every Friday it was casual and so everyone wore what they wanted which made the office seen a bit more relaxed and fun. We also held several charity days in our department with different fundraising activities.
From start to finish the internship was very well organised. We spent the first week in London where our accommodation and training locations had all been set up. The next 8 weeks were great with many different intern socials and networking activities had been set up for us to get involved in.
In our first week we had 3 days of networking and financial training by specialist trainers who gave us the skills we needed for our internship. We received lots of hand outs to keep so we could look back on throughout our internship. We also had a day of training our excel skills.

The future prospects are great. At the end of my internship I was offered permanent place on their graduate scheme after I finish my degree.
The Culture
There was a great social scene at the Glasgow office. The interns and the graduates went out every Friday after work and sometimes I would go out with my team as well.
I live in Glasgow and so I already knew the cost of living was fair. Compared to London prices, Glasgow was definitely cheaper.
Glasgow is a great place for nightlife with many bars and clubs to visit.
The intern group I was amongst was really friendly and fun. We organised a few nights out during the time of the internship.
