The Role
I thoroughly enjoyed my placement, I was placed in a department that was quite far from my degree, but I learnt quickly what my role was within the team and felt that I made a serious contribution to the team.
I settled in very well with the team, although my desk was quite distant from the rest of the team, which was no fault of my team, more the organisation of the office.
Weekly meetings with my technical specialist and monthly meetings with my manager were exactly what was required.
The workload was sufficient
I was given a significant amount of responsibility
The skills I developed were very helpful for my worklife, as I have rejoined the same department with a headstart as I already have a good knowledge of the company and department. Other than communication and organisation skills, the department I worked in was not suited to my degree course. Although I moved departments for the final 1/4 of my placement to a department that was much more suitable.
The Company
Was enjoyable in a difficult climate during the recession
HR could have been more organised about where we were going to be placed early on, and would have saved a lot of hassle. There could have been more events and training courses assigned to placement students.
I had the freedom do complete any training courses that were available to all other employees, and a dedicated cost centre to take care of any budget restrictions.
Financial Bonus
Got a job with them, as did the majority of my colleagues who completed the same placement.
The Culture
Fairly good at the start, but tailed off after 3 months as many of the placement students left. Has improved now that there are more graduates around.
Coventry is cheap, Leamington Spa is nicer.
Close to many good places.
A few events around Christmas time, and a few others.
