The Role
The internship was well structured both in terms of my responsibilities at work, but also after work activities and future opportunities that were provided by Barclays.
During my internship at Barclays I truly felt as one of all those great employees. I hugely enjoyed coming to work every day as I felt needed, respected and welcomed. The great atmosphere at Barclays had a positive influence on my experience.
I had a weekly individual meetings with my manager where I received a feedback on my performance and could seek for help. Moreover, everybody was extremely helpful across my floor.
I was given a difficult but very interesting project, which was well balanced with set milestones across my time at Barclays. Furthermore, there were speaker series, educational sessions and opportunities to volunteer which, apart from my main project kept my extremely busy.
I have been assigned with a project that required both independent work, and the discussion with the Department Working Group in order to gather information about current procedures, and create a new way of doing things. I was responsible for the entire project from the start to the delivery and implementation stage. Therefore, I am really proud that I could leave legacy and work on something meaningful.
I have gained and developed my people and professional skills. I had a great opportunity to present in front of Vice-Presidents which definitely made me more confident and again professional. Moreover, I have learnt a lot about Operations, and how the bank works. All the knowledge I have gained provided me with solid foundations for my Master degree.
The Company
The atmosphere was great. There was a perfect balance between fun and work. We had some charity days as well as the Commonwealth Games Fun Day.
The one week of training together with the actual internship was well organised. I was fully informed of my project responsibilities, networking opportunities, after work activities as well as career speaker series.
Barclays provided a one week training in London, where I could meet all the interns from various divisions across the bank. The training focused on introduction of financial, practical and professional skills that I later built on during my internship.
Company Parties/Events
The internship was a valuable experience to learn more about the company, its values and people. It was a great feel for the future career with Barclays which I am looking forward to.
The Culture
There were frequent dinners and nights out with other interns.
I stayed in my flat I rent during Uni term, so I avoided the trouble of looking for summer accommodation.
The Nightlife in Glasgow is great. There are tons of clubs to go to depending on music, cost and atmosphere.
There were many sport and volunteering opportunities to choose from. If you show interest, there is always something that you can get involved in.
