    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • Demanding but rewarding, felt like I was a real part of the team.

    4/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • Team members were happy to discuss solutions with me, asked by other colleagues to help them complete work.

    4/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • My supervisor provided great feedback and kept me focused. It was sometimes difficult to find work I could do that would be useful, however.

    4/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • Plenty of long-term objectives to keep me busy, though naturally some days were quieter than others.

    4/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I could always ask my supervisor or team for feedback or to review my work, but generally I was allowed and encouraged to take tasks on myself and deliver results independently.

    4/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • Learning about the software development lifecycle as well as an entirely new computing language should prove immensely useful.

    5/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • My office was friendly, and everyone was approachable, from junior developers to Managing Directors. People were generally focused however.

    4/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • I had very little formal training (the only training coming halfway through my internship). This was in an effort to sync the off-cycle and summer internships.

    2/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • My supervisor provided a great deal of advice and assistance for which I am very grateful. I was lucky to have that help though, which might not have been available to everyone.

    4/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Flexi Time

    Subsidised/Company Gym

    Financial Bonus

    Working from home

    4/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • Very appealing; there is a lot of scope for travel and career progression. I have secured further employment with the company.

    5/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • The summer interns usually had a strong social scene. The off-cycles interns on the other hand were a bit more focused on work, as they would have larger and more meaningful projects. There wasn't a huge amount of socialising after the summer interns left.

    3/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • The cost wasn't cheap, but seemed pretty standard for London.

    3/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • After work there were bars open for drinks and restaurants, but beyond that there wasn't anything. Canary Wharf is very quiet outside of working hours, even moreso at the weekends.

    1/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • There were networking evenings and informal sports societies. I wouldn't say there was a huge choice though.

    2/5
