About You
I very much enjoyed the day. It was a great chance to learn more about the company, the people who work there and the career prospects.
As I only attended an Insight Day, I did not actually perform any work. Therefore, there was not much opportunity to feel valued. However, the HR team were very accommodating and completely understood that I had to leave early.
There were several presentations that enabled me to learn more about the Bank, what they do and the career opportunities. There were plenty of people to speak to and network with.
Learning about the recent restructuring of the Bank was actually very intersting and something that I am sure will prove useful to know at some point in the future. However, as it was only and Insight Day to learn about what a career at the Bank of England might entail, I can't say I developed any skills.
The Company
It was well structured with a mixture of presentations, networking, informal chats and an opportunity to ask a lot of questions.
There was a very nice atmosphere, but it was a bit of a shame that it was not in the actual HQ on Threadneedle street, as I would have liked to see the inside!
They were very friendly, eager to answer any questions and help people with their future applications.
It was a good chance to see what a job at the Bank might be like, but it would have been interesting to be able to spend more time with recent graduates and perform some of the tasks that they might - or at least get more a taste of what they do in some other way.
As the insight was not in the Threadneedle street building the only employees (other than HR) that we got to speak to had to come specially to the building, which probably limited the number of people we go to speak to. Having said that, being able to speak to those that did arrive was a decent indication of what the culture is like.
Although it was interesting, I was able to decide that a career at the Bank was not for me. But that was just because I am more interested in other things. The Bank made a good impression in general and seemed to be a fun and interesting place to work.
Everything Else
Reimbursed for travel expenses and considering that this was quite a lot, it was much appreciated.
Yes, good chances to meet recent graduates and ask anything you wanted.
Only had the chance to speak to a few people of lunch and refreshments, so there could have been more, but that would have required lengthening the actual Insight Day.
Yes, a lot of them were involved in many activities and had very interesting backgrounds.
Yes, it is a great way to decide if a career at the Bank of England is for you!
