The Role
I thoroughly enjoyed interning in the Compliance Department at Barclays. Having never worked at a bank before, this internship provided me with a unique insight into the way in which an investment bank operates and the significant role played by the Compliance Department in supporting the business in its day to day functions.
My team members never made me feel like an intern but always gave me real work and valued my efforts. They were incredibly supportive throughout my internship and were ever-willing to help me out.
I had a weekly meeting with my line manager to discuss my progress and to obtain feedback on the work that I was undertaking.
I dealt with new transactions on a daily basis and spent any spare time I had on a research project which I had to submit at the end of my internship.Overall I had a good work-life balance and never had to stay in the office too late.
My team members delegated real work to me and provided me with guidance as and when required.
This internship allowed me to develop my ability to multi-task, a skill which will help me in all spheres of life.
The Company
The atmosphere was friendly.
The internship was very well organised.
The first week of the internship was spent training. During this training week, the interns attended numerous workshops focusing on excel skills, soft skills and acquiring financial knowledge. This training week allowed me to develop basic skills which I built upon during the course of my internship.
I look forward to returning to Barclays and starting my exciting, new career as a graduate.
The Culture
All the interns were incredibly friendly and we would often go to the pub for a drink after work.
The interns were encouraged to participate in Corporate Social Responsibility events as well as join the numerous sports clubs at Barclays.
