The Role
I found the placement ok. After spending my whole life thus far in education I found myself to be under-prepared for the huge effort and work a full-time job requires. By the end, however, my stamina had increased and I found the placement to have been an ejoyable and eye-opening experience.
My colleagues were great and supportive and even though they were more acquaintances than friends I still keep in touch with a few of them through email and facebook.
Colgate are strict on monitoring progress and performance and I sometimes felt that the weekly meetings were too excessive. At times I felt that at all times I had to watch my back and that I could never relax I always had to be constantly pushing and working which isn't great for job satisfaction levels.
I was always very very busy because once I had completed one task I was told to report to my manager to be set another task. It was continual work.
I was able to compile the reports unsupervised but they had to be moderated before they could be processed to management.
Any experience is always valuable as long as you learn something from it and I think my time at Colgate did make me work harder in my final year at university and gain that better degree classification.
The Company
The atmosphere was very friendly and relaxed though everyone knew that they were there primarily to work.
HR are great and the whole placement was monitored errorlessly.
Not much really. I didn't achieve or gain any new qualifications while at Colgate where as some of my friends got new qualifications and training while on their placements.
Flexi Time
Subsidised Canteen
Subsidised/Company Gym
National Travel
Financial Bonus
Company Parties/Events
Staff Sales/Staff Shop
I think I'm better suited and happier in my current employment.
The Culture
I didn't really meet anyother placement students and none of the colleagues I would class as mates.
I found it to be quite reasonable compared to other places I've stayed.
Lots of pubs and restaurants and the uni is close so a good student nightlife!
I didn't get involved in any.
