The Role
Absolutely loved my year at GSK
I got on with all of my colleagues at GSK, particularly my supervisor and knew that the work I was doing was valued by the team
Great support system
Varied from day to day as you would expect. But all in all was a good balance, and my supervisor tried to ensure my needs were met
My level of responsibility increased as the year progressed and I was in charge of my own experiments, but the support and guidance was still there when I needed it.
Learnt a lot throughout the year: experimentally, organisationally, and grew in confidence. Was a great year and will stay with me for life
The Company
Was a quiet office, but that was because everyone was hard at work. This was good as it provided a good working environment, but there was always other areas to socialise in the building. But it wasn't serious all the time and there were some laughs to be had.
Was great, we all fitted into the department without any problems
Compulsory training to get us up to speed with the company, training on equipment and techniques, guidance in presentation skills, guidance for CVs and interviews post-university.
Flexi Time
Company Parties/Events
Have to jump through the same hoops as everyone else, but my placement will definitely stand me in good stead, and would love to go back
The Culture
Events were organised by the staff and students and was nice to socialise outside of work
Average
Not great, there was one club, with not a great reputation. There are plenty of pubs though, but most of the time we just went to different houses
They may have been, but I did not seek them out
