    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • Absolutely loved my year at GSK

    5/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • I got on with all of my colleagues at GSK, particularly my supervisor and knew that the work I was doing was valued by the team

    5/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • Great support system

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • Varied from day to day as you would expect. But all in all was a good balance, and my supervisor tried to ensure my needs were met

    4/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • My level of responsibility increased as the year progressed and I was in charge of my own experiments, but the support and guidance was still there when I needed it.

    4/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • Learnt a lot throughout the year: experimentally, organisationally, and grew in confidence. Was a great year and will stay with me for life

    5/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • Was a quiet office, but that was because everyone was hard at work. This was good as it provided a good working environment, but there was always other areas to socialise in the building. But it wasn't serious all the time and there were some laughs to be had.

    3/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • Was great, we all fitted into the department without any problems

    5/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • Compulsory training to get us up to speed with the company, training on equipment and techniques, guidance in presentation skills, guidance for CVs and interviews post-university.

    5/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Flexi Time

    Company Parties/Events

    4/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • Have to jump through the same hoops as everyone else, but my placement will definitely stand me in good stead, and would love to go back

    4/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • Events were organised by the staff and students and was nice to socialise outside of work

    5/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • Average

    3/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Not great, there was one club, with not a great reputation. There are plenty of pubs though, but most of the time we just went to different houses

    1/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • They may have been, but I did not seek them out

    3/5
