The Role
It was a brilliant year, with many experiences and I have made some true friends from it.
All my colleagues treated me as not just another person in the office/lab but also as a friend. They appreciated the work I did and were also very supportive.
Support was always available not just from my supervisor but also from other colleagues. I found it easy to approach people on things that I was unsure of and there was always understanding that as a student I would not know everything about the work.
There was a good balance between work time and time for myself. Rarely was I bored. Sometimes I was very busy but that made the placement more enjoyable and prepared me for the real world of work.
I was given the responsibility to work independently were possible, However, with some aspects of the job supervision was required.
Not only did I develop specific scientific skills which will help me in my future career, I have also strengthened my transferable skills.
The Company
Everyone in the office was professional, however that did not make the office a fun place to work.
Everything was thought of, from seminars to health and safety. No faults at all!
There was nothing the firm wasn't happy to help with. I was allowed to experience other departments to gain a greater depth of knowledge.
Flexi Time
Sports and Social Club
Subsidised/Company Gym
Company Parties/Events
Subsidised Canteen
Financial Bonus
Staff Sales/Staff Shop
I would happily work with this organisation. Overall they treat their employees well and there is a great scientific buzz.
The Culture
All the students got on well and there was a constant social atmosphere with many social activities going on throughout the year.
The cost was average - however it would have been nicer if the food in the canteen was slightly cheaper.
Quite a nice selection of pubs - however they all closed early!
