The Role
The SDIP was extremely enjoyable and a fantastic experience.
I was part of a small team and it was a great. It also offered me the opportunity to listen to their experiences with the Civil Service.
My manager was remarkably helpful offering support and feedback all along the way. This was extremely helpful in moments of insecurity and doubts.
I had a good balance of busy and quieter period, it offered me the opportunity to network and get to know other internal departments.
I was assigned a couple of important projects, this is something that I wasn't at all expecting as an "intern". One expects to be 'photocopying' and 'archiving' most of the time, but it was definitely not the case with SDIP.
The skills acquired during my placement will definitely be helpful in any future job, these include: team work, delivering results, working effectively, and many more.
The Company
Serious and professional most of the time, but with a laugh every now and again.
The organisation was impressive, including various events across government departments including workshops, networking events and visits to Parliament and Number 10.
I was offered access to the Civil Service e-training platform, it gave me the opportunity to take various e-courses and improve my skills.
Flexi Time

Company Parties/Events
I am currently applying for the Fast Stream and hopefully will be starting with the Civil Service next September.
The Culture
We had various opportunities to socialise with fellow interns and current fast steamers, these included lunches, dinners, and visits to other government departments.
London is London and unfortunately nothing here is cheap.
Good experience.
We were encouraged by SDIP to raise some money for charities. It offered us the opportunity to put some of our personal skills into practice and get to know others from our teams.
